Her Bio Is Just Four Emojis. Don't Send One Back.
Six weak openers for an emoji-only profile, each rewritten into a line that gives her something to push back on.
🌊 🍜 🐈⬛ 📚
That's the whole bio. No sentence, no joke, four small pictures in a row. It feels like there's nothing to work with, so you either send something vague or swipe past.
Look again. She had thousands of emojis to choose from and she picked these four, in this order. That's a shorter list than a real bio, but it's better than a profile with nothing on it. It's a menu of what she'd like to be asked about.
Here's what usually gets sent to that profile, and what to send instead. Same four emojis all the way through.
1. The polite nod
Weak:
love the emojis haha
Better:
ok I've studied the evidence. you moved to the coast for a guy, got a cat instead, and it was a big upgrade. how close am I
Why: A compliment on her emojis has no answer except "thanks." A wrong guess has a very good one, because people love correcting you. More on that in guess instead of asking.
2. The mirror
Weak:
🍜🐈⬛📚🌊
Better:
is the black cat an actual cat or a statement about your personality
Why: Emojis back feels clever for about a second. It says you noticed the format and had nothing to add. Pick one emoji and ask something only that emoji could start.
3. The homework
Weak:
so what do the emojis mean?
Better:
I'm treating this as a crime scene. the cat did it, the noodles are evidence, the book is the alibi
Why: Asking her to explain her own bio gives her a chore. A silly reading of it gives her a game, and she can join in by telling you who really did it.
4. The inventory
Weak:
so you like the beach, noodles, cats and reading. nice
Better:
ocean, noodles, cat, book. that's either a perfect sunday or everything a lighthouse keeper owns
Why: Reading her list back proves you can read. The comparison adds something that wasn't on her profile, and that's the part she'll react to.
5. The wink
Weak:
mysterious, I like it 😏
Better:
does the order matter? because if the ocean outranks the cat, I feel like the cat should be told
Why: She's heard "mysterious" from everyone who didn't try. Noticing the order takes five seconds and still shows you actually looked at it.
6. The interview
Weak:
what's your favourite book?
Better:
the 📚 has me nervous. are we talking one big serious novel, or three chapters into eleven books at once
Why: "Favourite book" is a hard question for a stranger to answer on a Tuesday. Two silly options are easy, and either one tells you something. If you notice you've asked three questions in a row, stop interviewing her.
Two things worth checking first
Her photos. The emojis often point at a photo. If the 🐈⬛ is in picture three, use the actual cat, not the symbol. Opening from her photos gives you more to say than the bio alone.
The odd one out. Most lists have one emoji that doesn't fit. Three normal ones and a 🪼 means the jellyfish is your opener. It's also the one case where a straight question works, because you honestly can't decode it:
the jellyfish is a bold inclusion. I need the story
If the bio still gives you nothing, hintder reads a screenshot of the whole profile and drafts a few openers in the tone you pick. You choose one and send it yourself, and your first three are free.
Once she answers, stop decoding and talk to her. The emoji did its job, and message two is about what she said.
Four emojis aren't a code to crack. They're four topics she chose, so pick the strangest one and be wrong about it on purpose.
Stop reading. try it on a real profile.
