She Said 'You Say That to Every Girl.' Don't Plead Innocent.
Three moments she accuses you of running a script, how to read each one, and the reply that keeps the flirt alive.
You sent something good. A compliment with some thought in it, or a line that made her laugh. And back comes:
I bet you say that to every girl 😏
Your thumbs go straight to the defence. No, honestly, I don't. Stop there. A denial is the one reply that makes the accusation sound true.
She isn't filing a complaint. She liked the line, and now she wants to know if it was meant for her or pulled off a shelf. That's a small test of nerve, the same family as the other questions she asks to test you. It turns up in three versions, and each one wants a slightly different answer.
Scenario 1: She says it right after a compliment
She said:
smooth. how many girls got that one this week
How to read it: This is the warm version. The emoji or the "smooth" gives it away. She's enjoying herself and she's handing you the next beat of the joke. Sincerity kills it. "No, I really mean it" turns a game into a reassurance session.
The move: Agree and exaggerate, then make it specific to her. The exaggeration shows you're not rattled. The specific detail is the real proof it wasn't copy-paste, because nobody else could have received it.
seven. you're the only one who got the bit about the terrible hat though, that part was custom
Or shorter:
every single one. it's laminated. the part about your laugh I had to add by hand
You haven't denied anything, and you've still answered her actual question.
Scenario 2: She says it about your opener
She said:
be honest, is this your standard first message
How to read it: A bit cooler. No emoji, and "be honest" means she half suspects it. Usually she's right to: the opener was good but could have gone to anyone. If nothing in it came from her profile, joking past it won't work twice.
The move: Own it lightly, then prove you looked. One concrete thing from her photos or prompts, right now, in this message.
the first line, maybe. the question about why there's a canoe in your living room is new, and I'd like an answer
A small confession plus a detail she can check beats any amount of "I swear". It also fixes the real problem, which is that your opener didn't start from her profile in the first place.
Scenario 3: She says it when you ask her out
She said:
let me guess, you take all your matches to that bar
How to read it: The stakes are higher here, and so is the interest. She's picturing the date. She wouldn't bother wondering about your other matches if the answer was going to be no. What she wants to hear is that the plan has her in it.
The move: Keep the tease for one line, then tie the plan to something she told you, and hold the invitation steady. Don't retreat to "we can go anywhere you like". That hands her the planning and drops the confidence she was testing.
only the ones who claim they can beat me at darts. you said that on tuesday, so this is on you. thursday, 8?
The callback does the work. Reusing her own words is the fastest way to show a plan was built for one person.
When it isn't a flirt
Sometimes there's no smile in it at all:
honestly you sound like you've done this a lot
No emoji, no joke, a flat tone. Don't perform here. Answer plainly, once, without a speech:
fair. I've been on here a while. that message was about you though
Then move the chat on. One calm line is enough. Three paragraphs about your intentions is not.
If you're looking at her message and every draft starts with "no I promise", put a screenshot of the chat into hintder. It reads what she wrote, drafts a few replies in the tone you choose, and you pick one and send it yourself. The first three are free.
The rule for all three: don't argue that you're different. Say something only she could have received.
Stop reading. try it on a real profile.
