She Said 'You're So Weird.' Six Replies, Rewritten.

On a dating app, 'you're weird' is usually a compliment wearing a disguise. Most guys answer the disguise.

You sent something a little odd. A theory about pigeons. A ranking of breakfast foods nobody asked for. She comes back with:

lol you're so weird

Read that again. She didn't unmatch. She didn't send "ok". She laughed and stayed. On a dating app, "you're weird" is almost always a compliment that doesn't want to admit it's a compliment. It means you're not like the other eleven chats.

The problem is that most replies treat it like an accusation. Here are the six we see most, and what to send instead.

1. The apology

haha sorry, I get carried away sometimes

Rewrite:

you say that like it's a bad thing. weird is the only thing keeping this chat out of the "how was your weekend" zone

Why: an apology tells her the odd thing was a mistake. It wasn't. It's the reason she's still here.

2. The explanation

no I just mean that pigeons are actually really smart, there was this study where...

Rewrite:

I'll take that. but you didn't say I was wrong about the pigeons

Why: explaining the joke turns a bit into a lecture. Keep the bit, and hand her a small reason to argue.

3. The bare "lol"

lol

Rewrite:

weird is a strong word. I prefer "limited edition"

Why: "lol" for "lol" is a dead end. She gave you a label. Play with the label, and she has something to answer.

4. The fishing trip

good weird or bad weird? 😅

Rewrite:

good weird, I'm deciding that for both of us

Why: asking for reassurance puts her on the job of making you feel okay. Decide the answer yourself. Same idea, zero neediness.

5. The retreat to normal

haha anyway, what do you do for work?

Rewrite:

fine, I'll be normal for one message. ... no, I can't. your turn, what's the strangest thing you actually believe

Why: dropping back to safe questions throws away the only energy in the chat. If you want a real question, make it one that keeps the tone. This is the same trap as falling into an interview.

6. The over-correction

you have no idea how weird I can get 😏

Rewrite:

this is my mild setting. there are levels you haven't unlocked

Why: the first version leans into innuendo she didn't invite. The rewrite keeps the same confidence and stays playful, so she can choose how far to push it.

When "weird" isn't a compliment

Context still matters. "lol you're so weird" with an emoji or a follow-up question is a green light. A flat "you're weird." with a full stop and nothing else, after a message that got personal too fast, is different. In that case, don't double down. Pull back a step, keep the next line short, and read her texting register before the next bit.

The pattern

Every good rewrite does three things. It accepts the label. It keeps the bit alive. It leaves her a small hook to answer. If you can do that, "weird" turns into a running joke, and a running joke is one of the best things a chat can have.

If you stare at "you're so weird" and only the apology comes to mind, drop a screenshot of the chat into hintder. It reads the thread and drafts a few replies in the tone you pick, from dry to a bit unhinged. You choose one and send it yourself. The first three are free.

The takeaway: she called you weird and kept talking. Take the win, don't explain it.
